Would you recommend this Interior Designer and why?

We would recommend Palmwood because Vincent was very patient and professional. He was also honest and reasonable in quoting us. We felt that he was very experienced and could provide the appropriate recommendations and advice. Not only was the carpentry workmanship excellent and neat, the execution was quick and handover done before expected date. Overall a good and pleasant experience working with Palmwood and Vincent.

What advice would you give to future homeowners?

Have a good idea of what you would like, show pictures as examples, be responsive to your contractor as they also have other projects to schedule.

Would you recommend this Interior Designer and why?

Yes, I would recommend Palmwood for renovation work because they are: 1. Professional - The quality of their tiling, carpentry, electrical, plumbing and painting work is of good standard. They are also responsive to rectify any faults. 2. Reliable - There was good coordination between Palmwood and their sub-contractors. Work proceeded at steady pace and I did not have to chase for things to get done. Palmwood also finished the job on time and I was able to move in without any issues. They were also punctual for appointments and accommodating in scheduling meetings. 3. Trustworthy - The prices quoted for the renovation works were reasonable for the quality of workmanship and materials used. Palmwood was honest in their dealings and made us aware of all costs involved for each piece of work we had done. 4. Personable - Vincent (boss) and his design staff, JR, are great people to deal with. They are helpful, patient and dedicated in their efforts to see the job through from the planning stage all the way to the completion of the job.

What advice would you give to future homeowners?

1. Have a good idea of what you want done in your home - It is essential to do some homework on your own so that you can more confidently engage your contractor/ID to plan the works required. This will also help with budgeting too as you will be able to keep additions and variations to the minimum. There are lots of resources available on the internet (e.g. Pinterest etc.) and in interior decoration books and magazines. You can also try visiting show flats for ideas. 2. Make itemised lists for renovation work and furnishing required - This will help with planning, budgeting and tracking of works that you want done. This extra step will also help your contractor/ID to keep on schedule as keep additions and variations will be kept to a minimum. 3. Budgeting - I factored in an extra 20% of estimated renovation and furnishing costs to cover additions and variations costs for unanticipated requirements. This extra budget came in handy to get all I wanted done now, rather than to live with the regret that I had not gotten all I wanted done the first time round.

We often hear about horror stories about fly by night contractors/ designers who will avoid calls and miss deadlines. With Palmwood, I have no such issues. The servicing team is extremely responsive. Even when they miss my calls, they will reply with a SMS and call me back. The carpenters are professional and resourceful as well! Some unforeseen issues occurred on-site and they are able to come up with creative solutions that did not compromise on the quality.

What advice would you give to future homeowners?

I believe the responsiveness of a company is the most important. Be it meeting milestones in the timeline or even as simple as replying a call. A renovation schedule is often very hectic. If any party misses any important milestones, the whole project will be delayed. One thing i look out for is always the team in the firm. In my case, the head carpenter has been with the firm for more than 10 years. This speaks volume of the company's philosophy and dedication when the staff retention is high.

Yes. Vincent, his inhouse designer, and his entire team work very well together. They are professional and do their best to meet our extremely high expectations, always ready to offer a balance of practical solutions and design functionality. We needed to maximize storage and flexible space planning and Palmwood was patient in helping us conceptualise the design. And ensuring that the concept is functional and practical in the space. Palmwood also has their own carpentry team, so we were able to monitor the process closely. Overall we are very happy with the design - our home is comfortable, easy to maintain, and the flexible design will continue to meet our evolving needs into the forseeable future. Palmwood is a reputable Renovation firm; who takes pride in their work, design and quality service.

What advice would you give to future homeowners?

Have an open mind, and allow time for design as it is the blueprint of how you want to live in the home you are creating. Always be clear on what you want : How much to spend, The home that works for you and your family. Quality workmanship is not cheap. You get what you pay for ultimately. That may seem like a cliche but quality actually lasts longer. And is cheaper in the long run. For us, the timeline was just a guide, too much adherence to the timeline may hinder creative sparks that may develop in the renovation process.

We had good experience working with Vincent for our BTO and that we can see that the employees take pride in their work and are willing to go the extra mile to get the work done properly. Thus, we are very comfortable recommending Palmwood to our friends and family.

What advice would you give to future homeowners?

Future homeowners should set their budget on how much they willing to spend on their renovation and to check the timeline of the renovation. To regularly come down and check the status of the renovation. After the near-end of the renovation, to do checks on all the renovation done by the contractor to ensure that everything is renovated as per the agreement made between the two parties, especially the electrical sockets, lights, fans and installation of doors/cabinets. To do a thorough checks so that they are able to rectified the problems as soon as possible.

Yes. They really listened to our design ideas and tried to find alternative ways to ensure that we get the look we wanted at the price that we could afford. They really sat through the design process to ensure that the final product meets our expectations. They were also open to discuss any changes to the design and were willing to provide us with solutions to our concerns.

What advice would you give to future homeowners?

To choose the most reliable renovation company. We were very lucky to have met Palmwood because they provided us with all the knowledge that a first-time home owner would need. They were patient enough to answer to all our last-minute queries and even went shopping for light fixtures with us. Home owners should also stick to a company that could give them the look they wanted at a budget that won't burst the bank because they are still other costs that you would need to fork out. Do as much research as you can.

The renovation work was done with efficiency. Options of designs are practical and suggestions were made with the owners needs in mind. Communcations with the designer is kept very open with changes made to suit the family’s individual needs. The company has a team of supportive workers who respond to rectify any remaining issues after all the major works are done. We had a peace of mind while the renovation works was being carried out.

My advise to future homeowners are to be prepared to deal with unforseen circumstances and be open to new design ideas. Stay practical and watch your budget.

Very good ideas and useful feedback given throughout the renovation. Always on hand to make necessary amends and changes as required by the situations that arise and the preferences we have.
