The landed property of a family of wine collectors and connoisseurs posed some significant challenges for its interior designer, Roy of Prozfile Design. Fitting in more than 2,000 bottles of wine, for starters, is no easy feat. However, the results were entirely successful, and created a home that is loved and enjoyed by the whole family.

HomeRenoGuru: How did you come to engage Prozfile Design to renovate your home?
Mrs Ng: We found Prozfile Design on an online portal. We actually shortlisted four firms and eventually decided on Roy because he made us feel very comfortable and he understood exactly what we wanted.
HomeRenoGuru: What was your brief to your designer?
Mrs Ng: The design brief was quite challenging in that the timeline was quite tight.
A cook’s dream – an expansive kitchen with copious storage space and a gleaming island counter
The kitchen was very challenging because we had a lot of kitchen equipment to put in. As the original kitchen layout wasn’t very effective, it wasn’t quite what we wanted, so Roy helped us look at the entire design.
Tasteful artwork and carpets add visual interest to the interiors, softly lit by a combination of cove and recessed lighting
Adjoining the dining area, a wine cellar houses more than 2,000 bottles of vintage wine
Another big challenge was the wine cellar. I needed to fit in 2,000 bottles of wine, which came in different sizes.
Natural light floods through the floor-to-ceiling windows, which overlook a picturesque partition of green that provides both privacy and scenery
We have a very huge wall in the living room and we wanted something that was unobtrusive, not too heavy, and at the same time elegant.
HomeRenoGuru: Can you share some aspects of your renovation that you especially appreciate and admire?
Mrs Ng: Basically I do not have any specific favourite part because I feel that every area has its good points. I really enjoy my house tremendously!
The concealed DB box, enclosed by space-enhancing mirrored panels
However, I really like what Roy did to conceal the DB box. Because of the actual structure, it’s actually quite difficult to dress up.
We had recessed lightings also along the bedframe, which give soft and subdued lighting.
The hotel suite-like master bedroom of the eldest son Ethan
A daybed creates a cosy nook for reading in son Elliot’s bookshelf-lined room
For Elliot’s room, we incorporated a daybed to fit in with the abundance of books, and also a walk-in wardrobe. Because the top area is usually wasted space, we decided to incorporate a pull-down clothes hanger component.
Daughter Alicia’s loft-like room has its own mezzanine level
My daughter Alicia actually initially didn’t want any ID fixing up her room. She wanted it done her own way, exactly how she likes it. But after she saw her brothers’ rooms all spruced up and done nicely by Roy, she decided that she had to have Roy do her room.
The home gym
The quietly luxurious master bedroom accommodates a sitting area, hi-fi and study area
Roy did a good job of fitting in a lot of features in the master bedroom, including a sofa, hi-fi and also a study area.
The spacious walk-in wardrobe and luxurious double-basin master bathroom
HomeRenoGuru: Do you have any advice that you can share with homeowners embarking on a renovation project?
Mrs Ng: For any reno project, I would say that it’s very important to engage your ID early so that you have time to think and work over issues. In the end, you’ll have a better result.
The entertainment room
HomeRenoGuru: Would you recommend Prozfile Design and Roy to other homeowners?
Mrs Ng: Initially when we engaged Prozfile Design we were very apprehensive because different people have different tastes and different outlooks. But we are so happy that we actually found Roy, because he did a really good job. I will definitely recommend Prozfile Design and Roy to my friends.
Thank you, Roy for a job well done!
