This help me in my decision making in balancing between the design we like and at the same time achieving or meet the practical concepts of the design. As an owner of the house. There are many design can be found handy in website. But not all are suitable to everyone and the location (eg country climate) also play key role. Some design are nice but May not be practical in our country. Thus, find a good designer to renovate your home is important. Listen to them and do your home work with their advise to find the truth yourself. After all the end fruits, sweet and bitter decision is from you not the contractor.

Having a busy schedule means that I can’t check on my renovation works as close as I should however having work with Mr Peng before, his company gives me peace of mind that they will project manage it well and more importantly giving me good workmanship at reasonable pricing. Stephanie and Mr Peng were also able to provide practical advice on various options I can take so I can make better informed decisions along the way. The other thing that I appreciated was their responsiveness and ability to fix unforeseen issues swiftly so that is something I appreciated.

Yes, definitely. Thanks to Yilin, the renovation of my house was completed quite smoothly. She was fully committed to making sure that she delivered what she promised. Being a good listener, she was able to capture my design ideas in her 3D drawings which helped me visualise what the final outcome would look like. Throughout the renovation period, she was most patient with me, promptly responding to my requests, answering my many queries and alerting me of the changes in the schedule even in the middle of the night and during weekends. She was most helpful in keeping the renovation costs within my budget. I am also immensely grateful to her sub-contractors for their quality worksmanship and attentiveness to detail.

- Look for a designer who works only with experienced sub-contractors that take pride in their work to ensure quality workmanship. - Work out as many details as you can of what you want to be done to help the designer understand your requirements. - Check carefully that all details of the renovation tasks such as the scope, types of materials used, dimensions and unit costs are correctly documented in the quotation so that the designer can give an accurate estimation of the cost of the project before the start of renovation.

I will definitely recommend this designer to my families and friends. I engaged Peng's company 5 years ago to do some simple renovation work. He provided good quality of work (tiles overlay, painting, carpentry) @ reasonable price. What stands out is his superb after sales service. Peng and his staff responded very quickly and efficiently to settle any issues, and at no cost. Therefore when my family decided to do major renovation this year, we chose Peng and his company without any hesitation.. He is very engaging, listens to our needs and provide practical & sensible suggestions. He pays attention to details (eg "box" to protect the switch from rain, types of taps that are practical and good to use, etc). And when we encountered a problem with the shower screen, he did not give excuses but instead worked with us to resolve the issue. He kept us posted of the progress by sending photos of the renovation status and frequent phone calls. Most importantly the renovation was completed within the stipulated time. Peng's quotation is extremely detailed, listing down every single element of the renovation works, so there is no surprise or hidden cost upon completion of the project. Definitely will recommend to friends or family or engage PJ Designworks in the future. The ID we engaged was Bock and he was easy to talk to and flexible as well. Helped to keep it within our budget and suggested good ideas. Quality and finishing is pretty good. Any small issues were rectified as soon as possible. He is extremely experienced in his field, as evidenced by the spot-on advice that he gives, as well as his extensive list of contacts and workers who do a great job under his guidance. Ah Peng and his team have a good eye for detail, not only aesthetics-wise, but also coming from a practical point of view. His services are suitable for all categories of residential living, since his workmanship and customer service skills are impeccable. Although he informed us that our renovation would be completed in about 2 months, he managed to do so in slightly less than the designated period. Overall, it was a hassle-free and enjoyable experience working with Ah Peng and his dedicated team of designers.

To give some allowance to the renovation budget to possibly stretch up to about 15% from estimated costs, as there are always manpower and hidden costs to account for. To be flexible in the concept, as there could be changes along the way which may be necessary, or even enhance the original ideas. To schedule for furniture delivery at least one week before the estimated time of completion of the renovation, so as to be able to see if the concept and furnishings fulfill the desired end product.

This was my second time hiring Ah Peng to work on our second new home. On both occasions of contracting, we had minimum problems/issues with the renovation works and schedule as the company was always kept us informed and updated on the status of the renovation. Ah Peng is also very creative and could propose better and more practical options for our considerations and lifestyle, having helped us with our first renovation few years ago. He was also a very responsible person who made sure that the works were done properly to maintain good workmanship and quality. He is very professional and the ideas that he gives out is very practical and sound, living in a 2 room flat has a lot of challenges in space and this is where sound practical advice is highly appreciated. He has recommended a few ideas to help maximum space. One more thing great about this ID is that after the renovation, you still can contact him easily to help touch up on a few minor flaws. After seeing a few contractors / ID, try to check their past clients to find out their past works. A bit of homework can save you lots of pain and hard earned dollars.

After meeting with various IDs, we went with Peng as we felt comfortable and he was the most responsive and knowledgeable among all IDs we spoke to. Peng provided us with reliable, honest renovation services and was also easily contactable through the renovation process. Ronnie and his team were very prompt in answering to our queries, offering suggestions to aid in our design and decision making. The renovation schedule was monitored closely but the best thing was the follow up even after the renovation was over. This is the relationship that was built through the numerous discussion in the planning.

Always do your homework on the things that you wish to have, and the design you wish to do. This will make the planning phase much more easier and allows the ID to work to your requirement and not the other way around. This is your home, designed by you, and executed by them. Teamwork and collaboration is the essence!

PJ Design Works has been my preferred renovation contractor and I had used his renovation services for both my home and my in law's home. The reason for this is because Mr Peng is a responsible and flexible person, which means to say that he is committed to the schedule and quality of his renovation work. Beside this, his vast experience in home renovation and the design trend, is able to provide me with good advise for practical and graceful design to suit my lifestyle needs. For example, an integrated storage/display cabinet cum TV console was proposed as a partition between the dinning and living area. This structure had become the icon of my home and I am pretty delighted with this idea/design. Other that the above, he would also take initiative to conceal those ugly cable or air con trunking behind the door which is the major concerns for most home owners in old HDB flats and this is a plus point for me. The carpentry workmanship is also good, supplying blum fitting closure system and all the internal cabinet are using wood texture laminate instead of those common white PVC which turns yellow over time. As for the flooring of my kitchen, toilet and living, they were all very well done. The gaps between the tiles are all uniform and I did not find any uneven surface or hollow tiles. Last but not least, I am impressed by his immediate after sales service which includes repairing my floor laminate caused by air con leakage and electrical issues (after 3 years) without any additional charges. With my above mentioned experience of his service, I am glad to say that I had confident and trust with him. Hence I have no worries for this renovation as i know that it is in good hands.

Renovation cost is always the concern for many people including myself. However the major objective of the renovation is to build a home according to your needs or lifestyle according to your budget. Hence I would always prefer somebody who can listen to my details and working out somethings.

Future homeowners, you should have an idea about what kind of home you want (in terms of colour, feel etc) according to your location for example. For my case, my house was beside the sea and the concepts my family had was related to it. Following that, my designer gave me very good advices and helped me to improve on my ideas. Set yourself an appropriate timeframe for the design and renovation. I would recommend 1 month! This will help to save time and cost. PJ Designworks was very good in this area and helped us to complete everything within 20 days. Convey clearly about the technical details before the renovation starts. This may include the position of your wires and the location of your furnitures. Design resulted in more spacious and well ventilated working space that is univerally friendly for kitchen and laundry area. Changed common bathroom door location to the laundry area which enlarged the kitchen area. Removed door and window frame and elevated step that separated kitchen from laundry area.. Thoughtful touches such as having common elevated space for dryer and washing machine created a compact working area. Designer also managed to create a subtle and space saving built in shoe cabinet upon request, with capacity to accommodate a large family.. Designer prompt in responding to queries and requests and team of workers are responsible and reliable.

Estimated about 1 month for renovation, as we continued to stay in renovated home, daily cleaning up was taxing, especially after work and with young kids. Would advise future homeworkers to stay else where while renovation is ongoing and do a one time massive cleanip instead of daily cleanup. Consider space saving and univerally friendly design as much as possible so that less changes needed in the long run.

As usual, homeowners always have a change of design ideas during the discussion with PJ but they are always patient and listens to the homeowners. Most important is for homeowners to have a home design theme concept and source around for design ideas from home design magazines and other available resources. Sit down with your ID to discuss your design concepts and set a realistic time line to complete your renovation work. In this aspect, PJ is able to deliver the project according to a agreed schedule and the boss is personally involved in overseeing the project and managing his workers and even to extent of managing your neighbours complaint to HDB during the renovation period. PJ is one firm that does not do 'hanky panky' stuff and is highly reliable and trustworthy to do up your house.

Yes, we would recommend PJ Design. We were looking for very basic and simple renovations for our house, nothing fanciful. It is not always that you find a designer who is not pushy, insisting that your place should be renovated in what they recommend for the 'look'. PJ Design respected what we need and provided advice and pictures of their previous project. During the course of renovation, we were kept updated of the progress via Whatsapp. They even took pictures for us at each completion. They also took care to inspect the completed work to make sure that all are in order. I remember being informed that they will change one of the cupboard door due to a small blemish. The extent of care they put into the perfection of the product was admirable. They are also very patient with our last minute decisions. We had to get a light for our dinning area and at the eleventh hour, informed them to hold on with the installation as we changed our mind and wanted to source for another one.

I always have the concept that we would be compelled to take in what the designer proposed. However, this experience taught me that it is not true. We got what we wanted with very practical advise from PJ. They provided and examples of the materials available. I would recommend this designer. My 3 apartments were designed by him. He put in effort to help to make my apartments safe and practical for my children to reside in. As I am staying with my in laws in my third apartment,, he helped to create enough storage without compromising to the aesthetic for us to keep our stuff. He is very efficient and prompt in his services. So far my husband and I are pleased with his before and after services. We have also recommended him to a number of our friends and relatives. He is a trustworthy and experienced designer cum contractor.

What advice would you give to future homeowners?

It is important to source for reliable designer cum contractor. I have friends who were upset with the after renovation service. The designer must have sufficient experience to know exactly how long his company can complete the renovation. This is very important especially when one needs to move in by certain time. Delay would cost a lot of inconvenience. Not only should the design be nice, their advice on the practicality of the design is as important if you have young and old staying in. Durability of their products are crucial too if one to intent to stay at the place for more than five years.

Of course, I would recommend PJ Designer without any qualms. I deal with Ronnie or fondly known as Peng. He is a hands-on person and has the ability to recommend materials and designs according to budget set. Peng has a good working relationship with his co-workers and is respectable among his subordinates which is very fundamental in a renovation company. My house is 20 years old and has gone through different stages of renovation done by his company. First, it was my kitchen followed by some minor work on 2 bedrooms. The most recent are the toilets where hacking were required. It was not an easy task to renovate the house while staying in. PJ Design has taken great precaution to protect the areas and work commenced and ended swiftly.

Find a reliable company to do the job and not leave you in the lurch for uncompleted work which could really be a headache with your leave schedule. Designer company must be responsible and assist to customers' needs as some may be layman . Most important; it is the AFTER SALES SERVICE that I particularly like about PJ Design. Peng is quick to respond and will help fix or rectify any problem done by his company. He understand our need and very hands on. Not every thing requires his contractor to do. I remember him pulling a luggage to my house everytime when he visits. Inside is all his tools whereby if there is any defects or things that need to touch up, he do it on the spot. After sales service very good as well. There is once where my toilet door, the locking panel came off, I whatsapp him that my door is faulty, can they come today to fix it. Gosh, this is extremely fast. Thumbs up!

Do not expect that Ah Peng reno is cheap like those that you find from outside and gather your own contractors because even though those are cheaper, like say around 15k-20+k for total reno, but when you realise there is so many defects, quality of items not as good, cabinet door not straight, here and there crack, most important after sales no service cannot find them. then GG. Good Game, you can slowly find people to help you settle.... for Ah Peng, anything, give him a call. Thats it. That is how simple it is. LOL. Of course, Ah Peng is still a very considerate and reasonable person. Let him know your budget. He can always think out of the box to see what he can do for you.

Would you recommend this Interior Designer and why?

Yes, the designer was patient in listening to our needs and he kept the renovation costs within our budget. He was practical with his ideas. He shared his experience and feedback from other of his clients. Hence, we really like his design suggestions as they were tested and proven. We used this designer when renovating our first home and we found him very reliable and approachable, so we decided to use him again. We appreciate him for providing a clear breakdown of the full renovation costs. There were no hidden costs or any unnecessary works. The designer also provided us a colored 3-D picture to help us visualize how the finished renovation would look like. Also, he kept us constantly informed of the renovation progress and throughout the renovation, he was the single point of contact which relieved us greatly from the coordination work with various parties, like the management corp., the sub-contractors and so on.

You must be upfront with the interior designer on your expectations. Sometimes, as home owners, we get too carried away with how our dream home should look like. Unfortunately, we can only stretch our dollar so much. So always be realistic with your expectations. Set a budget that you are comfortable with and work within the means. Have an open and a two-way communication with your interior designer. Review the renovation details and the work schedules carefully to make sure you fully understand and are agreeable on the work to be done. You can ask the interior designer to show you some of their completed projects which will help you to evaluate the quality of their renovation and their workmanship. Lastly, always be reasonable on your request regarding the renovation timeline so as to avoid any disappointments later on. A rushed timeline may ultimately compromise the quality of the renovation.

Yes. There are 3 points I would like to recommend this interior designer about : 1) Contributing many important points of design of the house , especially the color theme , location of fixtures 2) Excellent quality of material used for renovation , no hidden cost. Price is worth on the material spent. 3) Even after renovation completed , Mr Peng which is our interior designer would not hesitate to drop down to our house each time we called when we encounter defects.
